AMI Montessori trained // Graduate Diploma in Education
Having felt disengaged through much of my schooling, I became curious about how we learn. In 2008, I decided to do a graduate diploma in education. During my practice teaching, I noticed that little had changed to accommodate diverse learning styles. Less than a third of students seemed to thrive in a results-driven academic setting, and the rest either just kept up or showed little interest at all!
There had to be a different way, and that’s when I came across Montessori education. Watching children in the classroom – active, independent and deeply engaged in learning. Supported by hands on materials in which concepts are grasped by experience not just abstractly.
I’m also driven by understanding what factors can hinder a child’s learning. Now more than ever, we need to approach each child holistically – acknowledging not just their academic needs, but also their social skills, emotional development, and capacity to collaborate with others.
I also bring a love of the arts & crafts with a background in Ceramics (Dip.), Applied Fashion (Cert.III) and Mandala design.
